The Halloween List Pt. 1: Horror-Themed PC Games (1986-1990) Posted on October 25, 2010 by magisterrex Every year someone puts out a Top 5 or Top 10 horror video game list that contains only the most recent additions to the genre, but somehow manage to miss the games that started it all.
I've been trying to remember an educational PC game I played as a kid (in the later 90s, maybe even very early 2000s) where you explored a cat's mansion - each level revealed a new room in the mansion. Also, after completing each level, there was a portrait room where you would receive a new picture of the mansion taken from a different angle. The cat had been anthropomorphized and wore a dress, which might've been red. Around the mansion there were other anthropomorphized animals who were either guests in the mansion or servants. I think there was a housemaid who was either a hippo or a rhino. The rooms I can remember are an outside garden, a green house, and a stair well that was tiled black and white (and it had a fish tank in it). I think the goal of the game was to collect letters and spell words with them - that was the educational part. Each room had many different items scattered about that you could click. You views the rooms from a standing position (like in a door way) - there was no God's Eye View and you couldn't rotate the camera or anything like that. Sadly that's all I remember!
Pre-thanks to anyone who can help me! I've been trying to find it up for so long!

- The intro to the 1996 version of JumpStart Adventures 4th Grade: Haunted Island. I love this game! When I was a kid, it did a fantastic job at both educating me and scaring the CRAP out of me.
