My router has been running like crap lately. I have power 45 - nvg589 router. Wired and wireless connections are fluctuating between 0.1-12mbs down.

I thought that maybe if I check and update the firmware of the router, I would be able to fix something. I found a firmware update on a website called Sourceforge, it seemed to have a firmware newer than the one I have now. I downloaded it and got a file names 'NVG589-OSS-1.1.tar.bz2.' I went to the update section on the routers main page, went to browse and uploaded the file as is but it's been stuck , not sure if it's working or not. I don't see any progress, the loading bar is stuck.
